Grassley Defends Ethanol   [Edward John Craig]

Robert Zubrin writes in, noting the Al Gore allies who are part of the anti-ethanol effort:

Yesterday, Senator Chuck Grassley's office issued a press release exposing the extreme liberal networks behind the anti-ethanol smear campaign. I urge everyone on Planet Gore to take a look.

Be sure to read the RFP for PR firms to join the campaign, and the reply from Glover Park (which also is doing Al Gore's global warming initiative PR campaign) which won them the contract.

The Grocery Manufacturer’s Association official who signed the RFP is Scott Faber, a former staff member with the radical Malthusian Environmental Defense Fund. (infamous for its central role in banning DDT). Tim Searchinger, who wrote the article in Science on February 7 (and the popularization of it put out at the same time by the German Marshall Fund) that attacked the ethanol program for causing global warming, is a former staff attorney with the EDF.

These people are zero-growthers. They hate biofuels because they encourage the growth of agriculture and erode oil prices. They like high oil prices because they suppress economic growth — as Robert Bryce now admits, per my earlier post.

In 1973, the anti-growth Club of Rome cheered the Arab oil embargo, because it put an end to the post-WWII era of high economic growth. These people are coming from the same place, and they have the same allies — the Islamists.
